An Okiya is the inn/drinking establishment that a geisha is affiliated with during her career. The Okiya is typically run by the "mother" of the house, who looks after a geisha's appointments, develops her skills, and funds her training through a dedicated teahouse.

Many geisha, particularly those who work in more traditional geisha communities such as those found in Kyoto, live within the okiya to which they are affiliated, although some who work in other areas of Japan – such as the Tokyo geisha – are more likely to live within the okiya. move from your own apartment.

However, a geisha will still keep her kimono at the Okiya and dress there every night before going to parties and engagements. There may be more than one geisha living in an Okiya at any given time, and the mother of the house may also be an active geisha.

Haruka, Kimiko and Akiko are three twin sisters abandoned in a basket at the door of an Okiya in Tokyo in 1847. They were created with all the heritage and concept of the great and most famous geishas of the region to be their substitutes as the most highly regarded and well professional views of the place.

Their lives were shaped by discipline at work, taking care of the teahouse and following rules that were imposed from their earliest years of life. The adoptive “mother” who saved them from a probable death in a cold winter also started to charge (morally and financially) for everything.
