Just a few miles south of Taos and about a thousand feet lower near the village of Pilar is a section of the Rio Grande you can drive along for views like this. Given the scarcity of liquid water in these parts, it's a good place to see migrating waterfowl or fish. At almost any time of year, animals and birds not usually observed up in the sagebrush desert may cross your path here.
