Raton

Acequias are manmade irrigation ditches that carry water diverted from rivers, streams, or springs through mostly rural communities in New Mexico, especially in the north. They're run according to local schedules and may sometimes be mistaken for natural streams by outsiders. I found this drowned or otherwise expired rat in a drained ditch one year and had to photograph it. (There's a secret detail here I hope you find.) Later I used an early version of the image to illustrate a blog post entitled "Rat Man", which you may enjoy.

New Mexico belongs to God and we just pass on through. As I once wrote, "The thing was though, they'd done it, the entire Taos murder trip, yet both of them were still together, healthy, and the love danced in her eyes."
