La data è presa come punto di riferimento in quanto sappiamo, in modo certo ed inequivocabile, che segna l'inizio della manifattura di proprietà occidentale in Iran. Quindi datando un tappeto a prima del 1883 escludiamo automaticamente le influenze occidentali nella manifattura del tappeto. O meglio, escludiamo quelle influenze occidentali che si sono venute a creare dal 1883 in poi.

Coeval of the Serapi. The Karadjeh carpet is knotted in the 19th century before 1883. The date is taken as a point of reference as we know, with certainty and unequivocal, that it marks the beginning of Western-owned manufacturing in Iran. So by dating a carpet to before 1883 we automatically exclude Western influences in the manufacture of the carpet. Or rather, we exclude those Western influences that were created from 1883 onwards.
