This shot was taken at the ever popular Emerald lake in Yoho National Park. Although this was not our final destination for the day I had to make a point of stopping here for the sunrise. This was one of those times that everything lined up beautifully in the eyes of a landscape photographer. There was a haunting mist rising up from the surface of the lake shrouding the mountains and forests. There were these wild wispy clouds blowing through the sky. The sun had recently risen and the golden hour had just begun, illuminating the cliffs in multiple hues of gold. All of these things came together to create this unique one of a kind image. There's so much going on here and I love how wild it turned out. As far as effort goes this photo truly did not require nearly as much as some of my other work. For me this piece represents the element of luck that is involved with landscape photography. You can be the best photographer in the World, and plan as much as possible but, if you don't get the right conditions your photos wont turn out nearly as good. This reminds me to stay humble and remember that nature is always in charge. Make the most of the lucky opportunities you are presented with.

Troposphere collection image

Troposphere is a culmination of some of my favorite work to date. I have spent 30 marvelous years on this planet. The troposphere is the lowest layer of the atmosphere. It provides us with life every single day and it's where all our weather phenomenon happen. As a landscape photographer this affects my work in a massive way. Low pressure systems bring in rain and clouds for those moody shots. High pressure systems bring clear skies, perfect for capturing the stars, northern lights and milky way. Clouds give us amazing contrasts, sunsets and sunrises. A big component of what separates good from great landscape photography is the weather and the conditions it brings. That is why I am forever grateful to be living here, during this era. Capturing the beauty the troposphere has to offer and sharing it with everyone is what inspires me every single day.
