This painting got me thinking about the halo effect; the assumptions people make about beautiful people. Looking at Nyathera, most people will think she is naive, innocent and trustworthy but when you dig deep into Nyathera, she is cunning, dubious and manipulative. She’s aware of your assumptions about her and uses it to her advantage. This is a reminder that sometimes, the more we look, the less we see.
