Bergsbotn is one of Senja island's and Norway's most iconic fjords. By day, the vista over the sharp mountains is absolutely breath-taking. In my opinion, the night view is even better, especially in the Fall when the milky way aligns perfectly with the entrance of the fjord. But most of all, it s probably when the aurora borealis starts dancing that everything comes to life. This single shot proves it. I was able to catch the lights when the waters of this usually windy fjord were still. I love this auroral crown above the far mountains of the fjord being reflected in the water.
The aurora borealis is a mesmerizing natural phenomenon that so many people long to see before they die. It is what started my astrophotography career and I have been chasing them for 8 years now. On some nights, the aurora is very faint, but sometimes it explodes in very intense, bright and colorful shows. My personal favorite experience is when viewing such shows next to a still body of flowing water. When there is no wind and the sky is dark enough, you get the perfect play of mirror on the water surface. You are alone watching in this ephemeral, ethereal world, with only the sounds of nocturnal animals in the distance. In this collection, I am listing some of my best aurora reflection work taken all over the world.
