Gardom Lake & the yellow dress.
Gardom Lake is a quiet place in BC where I spent many mornings and evening growing my photography craft. I have a special connection to this place since it helped me evolve with my photography over the span of 5 years. I am a born and raised BC mountain girl and this scene screams home to me. Never forget where you come from.
How do I take these self-portraits? They are a combination of 2 images. I take one shot of the overall scene which is typically a long exposure shot to smooth out any water and clouds in the sky. I then take a second shot of me as the subject and combine them together in photoshop. Since I am often adding a long exposure into my image, I can't pose for more than a few seconds without visible movement in my hair or dress. I use a remote on my phone that connects to my camera to take the photo.
About the artist - Sarah is a passionate landscape & portrait photographer with over 10 years experience in the photography industry. Based in the beautiful Canadian Rockies, she is widely known for her long exposures and ethereal self-portrait work showcasing the beauty of the world.

I come from a family of abuse. My dad. Physical, verbal and emotional. I watched in horror and anger how he treated my mom, who is truly a special lady. I remember when I was little, I would shut off my mind and escape in my dreams. This is called disconnecting. I often dreamt of a different family or I would have nightmares of something happening to my mom. There was this moment in grade 5 when my dad was so angry at me for something, he had me pinned on the ground and I can still picture his face shouting at me to this day.
This all came out in my adult life and I made many poor decisions in my late 20s. My mental health declined and I had no choice but to face these dragons. Forgiveness has happened with my family and I am in an AMAZING place now in my 30's.
Even though I’m a grown woman, these images represent that little girl who had many dreams of escaping to beautiful places in a dress.
Thank you for viewing my heart & passion.
