Even when busy, the city of Nairobi in the East African nation of Kenya, has this calm aura about it. When I packed my bags and equipment to visit Kenya, I did so with the intentions of photographing wildlife in the savannah wilderness in southwestern Kenya but quickly fell in love with Nairobi. Images 51-55 of the Everyday Africa Collection were captured in different parts of Nairobi. Each image has its own quality and originality, from kids playing to happy faces engaging in conversation and when my eye spotted a man going about his day holding his chicken under his arm, I knew it was a moment I had to freeze in time.

Paying a visit to a small Maasai community in Nairobi was quite the experience. They were welcoming, a joy to converse with and I got to learn about their communal way of life, where they have a community leader, and everyone looks out for each other. Although this is not uncommon in a world where migration has become the norm, you will find that within a city you can find people with different cultures who are brought together by their love for or need to live in a certain place.
