"Chromesthesia" 2023 1/1
Going back to my roots.
I’ve never named a piece after the thing the majority of my work is built from, or rather takes form from. If you didn’t know, a lot of my work is centred around how my brain reads music and sound/voices as colour, shape and movement.
Something I’ve learned in my 10 years of working in the digital space is that it’s possible to explore and define a much broader colour palette digitally than when working with physical paint. Whether it’s moving image/projection work (like "A Study in E-Major") or static compositions like this, being able to use hyper-saturation and “building luminance between the layers” of paint kinda changed the game for me when translating synaesthetic (joined sense) experience.
I’ve often said that sound isn’t static, and it flows like our emotional state; the other side of my work explores this, using gestural abstraction to express emotion in colour - and with my work I hope to invite you all to question our sensory perception and allow yourself to be immersed in a world where sound and colour can exist as one, if only for a moment.
