"dancing the universe into being, we are still here and always will be…"

Wata Bodi is a series from my first solo NFT exhibit titled, “The Spirit House” featured in the XX1/OFF Block Party in the Black Arts District launched on August 21, 2021.

Wata Bodi is inspired by Water Goddesses throughout Africa and its Diaspora. It is a HD Video Collage featuring water from the Braunschweig,Germany and Abidjan, Ivory Coast, garra textiles from my late Grandma Adama’s textile business (1950-90’s in Pujehun, Sierra Leone), adire textiles that I’ve collected from Abeokuta, Nigeria and domestic westernized fabric.

My art is rooted in activating indigenous African cosmologies. I create new patterns and visual languages while activating body memory and ancestral knowledge. I am interested in awakening the radical imagination, dynamically expressing who we were, who we are and who we will be.
