Steampunk (from steam and punk) is a science fiction movement involving technology and arts and crafts inspired by late 19th century steam power. Emerged in the 1980s as a literary movement in opposition to cyberpunk, it gradually evolved into an art style, cultural movement and subculture. It is considered the most famous derivative of cyberpunk.

Typically, steampunk implies an alternative version of the development of mankind, perfectly mastered the mechanics and technology of steam engines, with a pronounced general stylization of the Victorian England era (second half of the 19th century) and early capitalism with a characteristic urban landscape and contrasting social stratification. This shows the connection between steampunk and retrofuturism. Steampunk works can also contain elements of fantasy, alternative history, horror and detective.
