Roman style sculpture located in the gardens of Palácio do Catete in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The sculpture partially damaged by cracks is emblematic, singular and metaphorically significant, as it demonstrates some aspects related to art generally degraded and abandoned by public and even private authorities. Art has always been a subversive way of trying to break the status quo and make readings and re-readings of political and social realities over time. In this sense, the cracked face can represent a form of pure neglect in the maintenance of monuments, but also a form of protest that seeks to break with the prevailing aesthetics and leads us to think “outside the box” in other possibilities of construction, whether in the way also in the narrative.
