Portraits in the Void Matrix

In many of my images I conceptualize space as a field; rendering figure and ground and connecting them pictorially, because they actually are connected in reality. In relationship to the "figure". the interstitial pictorial space within and without is represented graphically with known; however expressively abstract polyhedral networks.

Early on, my use of periodic structure was inspired by the notion of the ‘void matrix’. Some Eastern mystics describe this as the universal substrate of being from which all life forms emerge and ultimately return to. It is a domain that is completely empty yet simultaneously full and brimming over with the potentiality of being. It is sometimes referred to as the “void-plenum”. This metaphor is one of the key concepts discussed in Fritjof Capra’s book called The Tao of Physics: An Exploration of the Parallels Between Modern Physics and Eastern Mysticism. - Acevedo • 2021
