Turn Of The Century

In 1999 I drove with Sarah Kate, Jade, (my best ‘man’) and some friends, from Hollywood to Las Vegas where we were married by Elvis, exchanging vows including not to take our blue suede shoes out into the rain. We were part of the Hollywood furniture; we partied every night, never stood in line, never paid for drinks. I was asked so many times, “How come you get to hang out with so many famous people?” to which I replied, “You got it wrong. They get to hang out with us.”

1999 was just before digital photography became popular. Transparency and negative film were still the standard, but for those that could afford it, there were Polaroids. They provided instant gratification, although you had to take two pictures if you ever wanted a copy (and it was never quite the same, two different moments never are). They were more secure though, so Polaroids had a way of encouraging mischief. Of all the pictures I’ve taken, my SX-70 Polaroids have felt the most precious.
