Carbonized NFTs are NFTs that have been infused with carbon captured from the atmosphere and bridged onto the blockchain. Carbonized NFTs can take many different forms. In the case of The Genesis Stone, the NFT smart contract consumes tokens representing carbon offsets during minting, and the tokens are then taken out of circulation. By reducing the supply of carbon offsets in the marketplace, carbonized NFTs can force corporations and organizations to innovate rather than buy their way towards satisfying carbon emissions regulations.

In October 2021, KlimaDAO successfully launched a DeFi protocol using a novel form of tokenomics to create a "black hole for carbon". Inspired by their ambitious mission, we created carbonized NFTs as the next blockchain innovation in carbon removal.
