Stalemate by Martin Underwood

In this piece, there’s a war taking place. The chess pieces aren’t just chess pieces, but a representation of “race”. You see two pawns that have fallen down, representing the phrase, “An eye for an eye…” symbolizing here’s a war taking place. The knight (horse) chess pieces are placed to give you a sense of anger as they stare intensely at one another as lighting strikes to give off that dramatic feel. The main subject of this piece is a lady that represents peace. She understands nothing good will come of this kind of war and gets in the middle to cause a stalemate.
