All photographs in "Song of a Southern Dream" were taken during my first road-trip through the Southwest United States. Growing up in northern Canada, my only previous exposure to the Southwest was the movies and songs which created an alluring sense of freedom from the mundane. As an adult, I decided to document my first interaction driving through a place that previously existed to me only in my dreams from boyhood. 

Much like the road-trip, processing and curating these images was a meditative experience of self-discovery. I have learned a lot about the roots of my photographic eye, my influences and how my adolescent sense of masculinity was formed. I hope that through this work, others may connect with it and feel inspired to explore the places that they grew up hearing stories about.
