Modern Sirens by Shimon Okshteyn

Shimon Okshteyn (1951-2020) brings a personalization of an intensity that American art has not seen since Joan Sloan’s paintings of New York and its women. The journey from Russia has been a hard one for Okshteyn, but it is by no means complete. When one views his work, one hopes it never will be, for he has brought from Russia a unique subject and a way of painting it that enriches the art of this country.
