Carolyn Hitt is a “social expressionist"-- a term she uses to clarify that her ultimate purpose is to bring about creative involvement through community-engaged practices. From her brainchild, The Relevant Unknowns, a yearbook-style directory of artists, activists, and innovators living/working in the Seattle area, to Tuesday Teas at Blue Cone Studios, her weekly experiment in radical hospitality, Hitt's focus has always been to make space for those who are not already in the spotlight. Content to work behind the scenes, her prolific creative practice includes painting, sculpture, curating, and activating community around emerging artists across disciplines. Forever Safe Spaces, her newest project is a crowdsourced foundation that addresses both housing instability and income inequality as they directly impact the most marginalized artists in her community.
