Omutu and Matariki at dawn

In my culture we use the sun, moon and stars to tell what day of the year it is. The sun tells us the season, the pre dawn rising of stars tells us the month and the moon tells us the day.

Omutu is 2 phases before Whiro the new moon and is considered not a good time for planting, harvesting or fishing etc. While it is not bad it is also not good.

In this collection we see the predawn rising of Matariki (Pleiades), Mercury and of course the Omutu moon phase.

I love this series of photos so much I just had to make them in to their own mini collection.

All photos are 6000 x 4000 pixels and 240 DPI Talen 7/7/2021 at 7:30am - 7:45am
