The Heights

Matthew Porter presents The Heights, a portfolio of thirty-two images of old- school cars, captured in midair as they careen over city streets and highway intersections. Each photograph is a freeze-frame—a hypothetical film still from a pulp-fiction chase scene. They are a hybrid of hyperreality and studied, topographic description, part bittersweet nostalgia and part ironic reinvention of a classic American trope.

In 2019, Aperture published a book of the series, and #9 is in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The work has been profiled in The New York Times, and featured in The Paris Review, Wired, The New York Times Magazine, CNN.com, and many others. They have been exhibited internationally, and are appearing here for the first time as NFTs.
