‘Familial Chronicles: A Surreal Exploration of Life's Dualities’

Born in Turkey in 1982, Alkan Avcıoğlu is a polymath and an outsider artist who believes in the transformative power of prolific creation. He holds a master's degree in Film Studies and a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences. For years, he lectured in Narratology courses and studied art theories. He is a FIPRESCI member film critic and a DJ with a diverse range of creative endeavours spanning from writing to composing electronic music. He began digital painting as early as 1999 and has since created thousands of works. A relentless, multifaceted experimenter, Alkan has focused on AI art for the last two years. He has collaborated with Fellowship and released his acclaimed 300-piece collection “Overpopulated Symphonies” under Post Photographic Perspectives. Recently, Alkan's work has been selected for numerous exhibitions including Vogue’s Photo Festival 2023, Seattle NFT Museum’s “Convergence: AI and Art” and Superchief Gallery’s “Artist x Ai // 000004 - A Show of Hands”. “My artistic process with AI is based on countless iterations and a focus on giving space for the image to exist on its own. I strive to decontextualize iconography by merging different styles in raw fashion. My goal is to create images that are raw and unusual, blending elements of post-photography and painting in a lo-fi aesthetic manner. I experiment with prompts on MidJourney to receive outputs that are lingering on the thin line between the kitsch and the serious, constructing an allegory for the post-truth society feeling increasingly estranged from their surroundings.”
