A unique collection of legendary memes of all times and peoples.

The word memes appeared back in 1976 in the book "The Selfish Gene" about the evolution of biologist Richard Dawkins. In translations into Russian, the word occurs in two versions: "memes" and "mimes". By these definitions, the scientist meant stable elements of human culture that go through natural selection, adapt to external changes and evolve. Dawkins considered certain ideas, skills, phrases, behaviors or fashion to be examples of memes, according to the official website of the encyclopedia Britannica.

However, the concept of Internet memes is somewhat different from the definition proposed by the scientist. The Oxford English Dictionary website suggests that memes should be considered "images, videos, parts of text, and so on, usually of a humorous nature, which are copied and quickly distributed by Internet users, often with minor changes."
