In Darkness, We See The Light

‘In Darkness, We See The Light’ is a collection of 50 1/1 personal photographs shot across the Hong Kong islands on medium format and 35mm film, between 2018 - 2019. This was a pivotal time for me, during which I most notably shot and directed the short film ‘Ashima’, which has gone on to win numerous awards and accolades including Best International Director at the Oregon Documentary Film Festival, and Merit for Best Documentary at the One Club for Creativity’s 100th ADC Awards.

But over and above the professional achievements, this was, for me, a time of emotional deconstruction and, eventually, reconstruction. With its contemplative, meditative and often dreamlike quality, this collection reflects the mood of that time and what it meant for me personally - a time of introspection, reflection and reassessment amidst the lights and shadows of my favourite Asian city.

"In darkness, we see the light, and in the light we are reborn."
