For over 800 years, the Sanctuary Knocker has resided on The North Door of Durham Cathedral in beautiful Northumbria, North East England.
It offered a chance for the sinner to redeem themselves, or be devoured by the mouth of hell!
The design has also drawn in other aspects of Northumbrian culture; with the cross of St Cuthbert and the extensive pre-Roman Celtic history with The Tree of Life symbology.
