Eric Claus, born on 3 June 1936 in The Netherlands, is one of the most important Dutch sculptors of modern times. Eric Claus always manages to captivate the viewer through a wide range of subjects. Whether it is the figures of the popular Italian Commedia dell'arte or the great philosophers of the last century, not to mention classical mythology, it is his artistic vision and his craftsmanship that surprise the viewer.

The Commedia dell'arte occupies an important place in Eric Claus's extensive oeuvre. The acquaintance with these first Italian professional players from the sixteenth century, who tried to make a living with their comedies under mask and improvisation in economically difficult times, dates back to the seventies of the last century.
