This piece shows that even the sanctuary of heaven excludes LGBT+ individuals. Our community is told again and again that we're destined for hell just for the victimless declaration of loving and enjoying the same sex. Even if one conforms to live a 'morally good life', it would all be in vain because of the inherent wants and desires which shape who we love. Love is not a choice. Loving the same gender is not a sin, but bigotry is.
As I'm a bisexual women, I wanted to create a collection for pride month. 'It's Sinful' explores religious trauma through the lens of sapphic women in the lgbt+ community. There are countless stories about individuals who have experienced homophobia at the hands of religion. However, this does not make religion inherently bad- just the messages of love and equality have become lost along the way with some individuals. I hope this collection reminds you that religious views are not an excuse for homophobia. Religion should uplift us all, there are no exceptions.
