This picture comes from a very mystic festival in India named “Gajon”. The deity of this festival is Lord Shiva who is the “Destroyer” according to Hindu mythology. Shiva represents a soul that is full of energy yet calm, that can cause tremendous chaos yet content, he is the calm before the storm, perfect in all aspects, a lover, God, and a devotee who stands with strict principles. Yet my words fall short of the power he possesses. So, one can imagine how Shiva’s devotees would be. He showers them with blessing. This man, seventy years old, he is participating in this festivity since he was 10. When he puts on the paint and he is in the festivity mood, the same 10-year-old spirit possesses him. The agility in his movement defies his old age. The power of devotion makes him a true devotee of the mighty God.
We all know India is a country of tradition, culture and festivals. To portray a country like India we need faces that carry the huge responsibility of tradition and culture. In this series, 6 photographs of 4 different festivals portray a small part of the colors and festivals in India.
