He had arrived decades ago one fateful night, carried by a meteor whose path had burned across forty miles of the desert sky. His armour and eponymous shield were said to be forged from concentrated ingots of exotic an exotic metal which alchemists and metallurgists across the Sand claimed defied the laws of physics. The Starbound Shieldbearer had narrowly survived the impact, only to find himself thrust into a world of demons which consumed people and people consumed by demons. The nearby village of Lodestar knew nothing of the cosmos or the distant stars that cradled their world. But they came to know of the Starbound Shieldbearer, and they knew he was their only hope against the things that lurked in the night.

The Shieldbearer had never asked for their worship, but he had earned it. For years he had defended the people of Lodestar, fought back the monsters, and gave them hope. He was their protector, their defender, their hero.

But now, something was wrong.

The Shieldbearer had been acting strange lately. He was distant, withdrawn. He barely spoke, and when he did, his words were cryptic and vague. He spent more and more time alone, wandering the desert by himself.

And then, one night, he simply vanished.

The people of Lodestar were lost without their hero. They didn't know what to do. They needed him, now more than ever.

But he was gone.

And so, they wait. They wait for their hero to return, and hope that he can save them from the darkness that is closing in.
