The Milky Way was visible after sunset across Lake Pamamaroo. Unseen to the naked eye, radiant red airglow was glowing throughout the night. Only with a camera, the colours and details of the night sky are visible.

I camped 6 nights at Lake Pamamaroo, it was windy and cloudy for half of them. On this night it was mostly calm for the Milky Way to reflect on the water. Satellites and planes flew above through the night and a large meteor at the 8 second mark blazed downwards in the centre centre.

As the night continued the calm conditions began to change with clouds and wind slowly making its way across the lake. The ripples of from the wind began to disturb the water scattering the star reflections on the lake.

Towards the end of the night Jupiter rose reflecting on the water as the high winds arrived to disturb the smooth water.

This time-lapse is 461 photographs in sequence over 3 hours of time from dusk to night. Dimensions 1920px by 1080px.

A Cluster of Stars collection image

A 16 piece collection by multi-award winning Milky Way Landscape Photographer David Magro.

A Cluster of Stars is a small collection of 8 years photographing the Milky Way over diverse Australian landscapes. Each photograph requires precise planning to align the foreground with the distant Milky Way 26,000 light years away. This alignment occurs on select nights of the year when no moon is visible in the sky and when Earth faces the centre of our galaxy after dark. Most photographs have taken years for elements to align with good viewing conditions.

Each night you are under the stars it provides you with a surreal experience watching the night sky once your eyes adjust. Meteors light up across the sky, stars rhythmic twinkle, constellations rise and fall and you get a sense of calm looking out into its vastness. Time passes by quickly.

I present 16 minted 1/1 photographs and time-lapses showcasing the Milky Way.
