Brazilian artist, known worldwide, was born in Capivari, in the interior of São Paulo, on September 1, 1886. At just 16 years old, Tarsila paints her first painting, the “Sacred Heart of Jesus”.
Known for her great works, Tarsila represented the first phase of the Brazilian modernist movement. Her painting Abaporu, from 1928, inaugurated the anthropophagic movement in the visual arts.
Tarsila came to represent the Marielle Franco Institute, which seeks freedom of expression, connects and empowers thousands of women to continue moving the structures of society.
