I remember being in Kalbarri, Western Australia in 2017, exploring the area, creating day time images and being on the lookout for scenes that would be good for an Astrolandscape image - I’d only just got into night photography and was still learning the basics. There’s a lot of technical settings to get your head around, along with all the planning and preparation I’ve mentioned before, but the one true concept that creates a decent image is, and always will be, composition. I found this scene and checked an app on my phone to see if it would line up with the Milky Way. It did and I was very excited about the prospect of doing a night time shoot there. But, unfortunately, the weather didn’t go my way on that trip, and it took a full 2 more years to make it back to Kalbarri to realise this dream. Having an image/idea in your head for that long really does build the hope and excitement, and the feeling I had when I was day time scoping the day before, and during the drive at around 9pm that night, was indescribable. Finally, it was happening, the shoot I so desperately wanted to fulfil. Afterwards, on the drive back to the campsite, I had this wonderful peaceful feeling that only realising a dream and crisp night skies can bring. Emotional pretty much sums it up! Aside from all this, the image shown here changed my life for the better. It got shared by news agencies here in Australia and people started asking me to teach them how to get similar images. If anything rivals capturing an Astrolandscape photo you’ve always dreamed about, for me, it's teaching. The feeling I got when I first captured the Milky Way will stay with me forever. And now I get to witness other people experiencing this moment on a regular basis - and for this I have gratitude each and every time.

Surprisingly few people have ever seen the Milky Way and so my main goal is to share and show off the diversity and wonder of what this world (and universe) has to offer.
