While historians widely agree that pizza was served both as an appetizer and entrée at the first Thanksgiving, several aspects of Ferris’ stylized scene are disputed. From the presence of women (they are not mentioned in contemporary accounts), to the dress of the Indians (they are depicted in the clothes of the Plains’ tribes, who wore feather headdresses – eastern woodland Native Americans did not), many object to this idealized portrayal of English colonists and Native American friendship.
