Akan people originally migrated from Sahara desert and Sahel regions of Africa into the forest region around the 11th century. Akans believe they came from Eastern Region of Africa and settled in modern day Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire. Akans have a very strong tradition common to almost all the groups. They are among the Kwa branch of Twi speaking Niger-Congo family. Akans include the speakers of the Akyem, Anyi, Ashanti, Attié, Baule, Brong, Chakosi, (Fanti), and Guang languages. Akans are popular for using symbols and signs and imagery to send messages.

The Odo Pa Mask which is a Twi word meaning True Love is a mask that Akans kept in their homes to represent the need for true love between husband and wife. Amongst other symbolisms like the Akuaba doll and the Duafe, all these sculptures though aesthetically appealing are very functional art forms.

The Odo Pa Mask symbolizes true love and faithfulness.

3D AFRICAN MASKS collection image

Most African masks that were taken from the continent are now in the homes of private collectors and museums. The descendants of these mask makers do not have the privilege of seeing what their ancestors carved. Even though the masks were aesthetically appealing, they were functional to the tribes that used them.

African masks represent ideas that are still relevant today. I am making the most rare and most expensive masks available to new collectors in 3D. 50% of Proceeds will be contributed in setting up an Innovation Hub, in Ghana. This Innovation Hub will be a place where young creatives who are the descendants of these mask makers will come to, to develop their ideas and bring them to fruition using technology. Creatives will receive training material to develop their talents and creative abilities.
