A note from Emily Lazar: The storyline of September Mourning was spawned from a place of intense grief. I had lost my best friend to drugs during the month of September and was searching for answers to the question, "Why him?" I have always been obsessed with death and this particular loss was a catalyst for me. If I could not get the answer I needed elsewhere, I would make a place where I could. I dove headfirst into writing and, as an homage to my friend, developed a world of the unknown filled with supernatural creatures that shape destinies. It was a labor of love in a time of grief and what is grief if not love persevering?
