This collection is fruit of my collaboration with the artist IamtheAstra. The photoshoot is inspired by her artwork, Crise de Identidade, and it is a self-portrait based on the lithography of Carlota Joaquina of Spain as Princess of Brazil (1808).
The title of the collection ‘Tupi or not Tupi: That is the question.’ extracted from the Manifesto Antropofágico (Andrade, 1928-1929), and is a homage to the Tupi culture, that is one of the main tribes of Brazilian Indigenous and also one of the largest indigenous linguistic branches in the country. They inhabited almost the entire Brazilian coast by the time of the Portuguese invasion and were the first people to establish contact with the Europeans
All the sales from this collection will be divided between me and IamtheAstra, who is not only a model but also a creator of the artwork which inspired the whole collection.
