The new wealth of the Grand Paris is solar power generation, a sustainable replacement for the harmful uranium industry. The multi-purpose Wind Dam acts as a dust barrier for the solar harvesting fields and simultaneously, a solar chimney and cooling tower for the brick tunnel kiln. The brick factory is located on the south-facing slopes to get maximal solar gain. New bricks are baked daily and are used to extend the factory, thus constantly recreating itself.
‘From Sand to Water: the landscape of hope’ is a desperately romantic proposal, calling for climate justice for everyone on the planet. Taking on today’s most sensitive issues such as global migration, climate change, state inequality – the project in the African Niger to the south of Sahara Desert is imagined not merely as a restorative agriculture landscape, but as a metaphor of hope, empowerment and independence. The holistic water management approach adapts the previously arid homeland into a lush landscape which captures and safely stores the water. The oasis dissolves decades of dependency on foreign aid and international politics, metaphorically forgiving its colonial past. ‘From Sand to Water’ manifests victory of life over death, hope over despair, and forgiveness over hate.
