1/1 By Benjamin Theurer // To stand tall in harsh and unforgiving landscapes is to stand proud. While exploring the south rim of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, we noticed a lone, lodgepole pine, barely rooted on the edge of a 100 foot or more drop. The morning light highlighted the sentinel looking over the rest of the gorge. It was as if angels were endorsing their watchman, the canyon layers accentuating his throne. Due to the variety of this hike, it is the one we bring most of our friends on to get the "full Yellowstone experience" and now we have a wonderful life lesson to share with those who join us for this sunrise experience. To stand tall, even when the ground around us is unstable and the world says it's impossible. We can thrive in adversity. Capturing this scene helped to remind me that despite my circumstances, I can still grow if I am firmly planted.

Wonderland. The original nickname of Yellowstone describes the variety of the landscape. With over 10,000 named and unnamed thermal features, over 300 waterfalls, more than 70 peaks, 2,500 miles of running water, and 2.222 million acres of wilderness, Yellowstone is full of experiences to be had. Yellowstone is my first conscious memory. My Grandfather, an E.R doctor, spent a few weeks each summer relieving the full-time park docs at Lake Hospital. We were lucky to join him once in a while in the free housing. With around 1,000 hours spent in the park, you'd think I had seen it all, yet there are still hundreds of trails I have yet to wander. This collection features only a small number of the places I hold close to my heart. Memories of my summers. I suggest you do what I do when visiting, imagine you are one of the first explorers, experiencing wonderland before the crowds.
Dedicated to Dad and Grandpa who taught me to love the park.
