Theyyam is a performing art ritual conducted in families/ family temples in the northern part of Kerala, India and has originated about 1500 years ago. The art form involves fierce make up, head gear and fire during performance and is considered as a form of worship to the particular deity of the temple/ the main god of the tribe/ family that follows the same. This was from a Bhagavathi Theyyam where the main deity is a goddess. Artist dances and twirls with the fire torches according to the music of drums and cymbals while transforming into the act of demi god and blesses the devotees.

Humans and Gods collection image

Ever since the inception of human kind, there existed the need of a higher power- God. Sometimes the humans watched the gods, sometimes they worshiped one, sometimes they acted as one and sometimes they become one. Age was no bar, from day one to the last, even after death Gods become part of life. In this collection from places around the world, I tried to showcase the relationship between humans, their beliefs and God. This is a collection of 1/1 Photographs with individual stories in them, shot by Arun Hegden.
