It was getting quite late as a drizzle fell upon the city of Tokyo. The bars were closing, the breeze was light, and the lanterns danced in the wind. But there was no darkness, as each street and alleyway lay lit with neon and signs beckoning people to enter the few remaining open places. The bar girls welcoming the remaining salarymen as many of them head home for the night. I have been waiting for these moments when the lights are dim and the population has whittled down. For me, the solemn ambiance of the backstreets combined with rain and few people make for the most beautiful photos. I prowl the streets until daybreak hunting for the next "scene" that catches my eye, the next piece which makes me feel accomplished as a photographer.
I come across an empty alleyway, most bars closed, but the glimmer of the lights enough for a beautiful scene with lanterns on the overhang. Every angle is beautiful, I had been waiting for such a location where there are multiple photos no matter the direction. Feels like a jackpot, so I decide to call it a night, knowing that I accomplished my goal as a photographer and having the impatience to come home and edit my footage.
