Taken with a Canon EOS 888 using Kodak Portra 400 film. Composed of two separate shots. One taken at Chautauqua Park in Boulder, Co and another taken on Pearl Street, a cultural hub of Boulder.

The beautiful American west has always captured my heart. I spent many summers during my undergrad years travelling through Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, and Utah. This was my first time in the great state of Colorado paired along with my first attempt at curating a landscape photography series on film.

This image is a composite of two pictures taken in Boulder, Co. The foreground, a view in between pine trees highlighting the flatiron formations, was taken at a hiking trail in Chautauqua Park. The sky was partially replaced with a picture taken near Pearl Street, a cultural hub of the city of Boulder.

The two compositions of these pictures individually were some of my favorites that I took home from my time in Colorado. However when I sat down to edit the pictures I found myself frustrated and constantly running into lighting and contrast limitations each one had.

Eventually I pulled both pictures up in Lightroom side by side gave them a look. I nearly instantly visualized the prominent low moon of the Pearl Street shot framed in the dense winter pines of Chautauqua Park.

I took my idea from Lightroom to PhotoShop and after a couple youtube videos and a few hours of tinkering I had managed to replace, blend, and compose the image that came to me in the midst of frustration with two pictures I was falling out of love with.

This will be the last picture of my genesis collection, and I couldn’t be happier closing it out with this shot.

See you on the next step of my creative journey.

Much love,
