When I first ventured into the world of NFTs in 2020, I found myself amidst a small, pioneering community of builders and innovators. These were the early adopters, artists, and thinkers who recognized the potential of NFTs long before the rest of the world had even heard of them. Names like Pak, Coldie, Trevor Jones, Hackatao, Josie Bellini, XCOPY, CryptoPunks creators Matt Hall and John Watkinson, and other luminaries were leading the charge, crafting digital art that transcended traditional mediums.
There was something profoundly wholesome about witnessing these artists operate ahead of the curve, grasping the transformative nature of this technology long before it became a buzzword. They were the trailblazers, laying the groundwork for the explosion of creativity and commerce that would follow in the years to come.

2020 was a year of discovery and camaraderie. I felt connected to a movement that had the power to redefine how we perceive art, ownership, and community. We were evangelists in a sense, spreading the word about NFTs, extolling their virtues and significance. But back then, it seemed like few were listening; the mainstream world was still oblivious to the revolution unfolding before our eyes.

As NFTs entered the mainstream consciousness, the landscape started to change dramatically. A new trend emerged with Profile Picture (PFP) projects like Bored Ape Yacht Club. These digital collectibles became status symbols and investment vehicles, capturing the attention of celebrities, influencers, and the media.

But with the explosion of popularity came a dark side. The shift from a close-knit community of genuine artists and believers to a fast-paced, profit-driven marketplace happened almost overnight. NFTs began to be treated like stocks in the stock market, with frenzied buying and selling, flipping for profits, and a detachment from the original artistic intent.

Scams began to multiply. Copycats and fraudulent projects appeared, exploiting the naïve enthusiasm of newcomers. A world that was once about innovation, creativity, and community suddenly had its values overshadowed by greed, deception, and short-term thinking.

The genuine artists, who once thrived in a nurturing ecosystem, found themselves marginalized. The mechanics that used to ensure artist royalties were often manipulated or completely bypassed. Many artists were left disillusioned, feeling like the soul of the movement they helped build was being ripped away.

Today I'm introducing "The Great Purge." This artwork aims to rid the space of the bad actors and bring back the integrity, creativity, and community that once defined the NFT world. By burning 10 worthless NFTs from your wallet—those that represent scams or failed projects—you can participate in a symbolic cleansing of the space.
