Head cheese or brawn is a cold cut terrine or meat jelly that originated in Europe. It is made with flesh from the head of a calf or pig (less commonly a sheep or cow), typically set in aspic, and usually eaten cold, at room temperature, or in a sandwich. Despite its name the dish is not a cheese and contains no dairy products. The parts of the head used vary, and may include the tongue and sometimes the feet and heart but do not commonly include the brain, eyes or ears. Trimmings from more commonly eaten cuts of pork and veal are often used, with gelatin added as a binder.
Artifoodles are a “NFTs for good” project where all proceeds go to the Bernese Animal Shelter (“Berner Tierschutz”) in Switzerland. All 10 NFTs are programmed in a way that 10% of each trade automatically go to benefit the animals. Artifoodles are a thought-provoking showcase of how the food industry alters meat products to make it palatable for their consumers. Each photograph requires the viewer to look twice as it is not clear what is actually shown. Artifoodles raise the question of what we eat and that there is a backstory to every snack. By becoming the owner of an Artifoodle you will be donating to people that give animals a new home and reward the work of many volunteers. Proof of donations will be made public on Twitter.
