Movie star Joan Crawford’s career was one of the longest in Hollywood history, spanning 6 decades. Much has been made of her temperament, most notably culminating in two semi-biographical interpretations of her life, ‘Mommie Dearest’ and ‘Feud’ both of which focused on her notoriously erratic and negative behavioral traits. Although the original image this piece is based on was more ‘sultry’ it ended up appearing quite tough; insolent and displeased, reflecting her challenging personality. I updated the look with a sketchier, street vibe reminiscent of the rebellious punk rock movement of the late 1970s to early 1980s which really had quite a different look to it than the commonly held cliché of mohawks, studs and safety pins. Finished with punchy word fragments taken from a slogan-based series I worked on between 2019-2021. The slogan ‘bitchy ass artists’ was from a Tweet made by renowned crypto Artist and trash movement figurehead Robness.
