Jean Shrimpton (1942- ), known by her nickname ‘The Shrimp’ is an English model who became one of the most successful of the decade of the 1960s. She came to define, as a style icon, the era of Youthquakers, Mods and Swingers for whom she became the emulative ‘it girl.’ She’s arguably most famed for helping put the miniskirt on the map, when she caused an international scandal on a trip to Australia by wearing one to the Victoria Derby races. Although Shrimpton as a specific subject has had an almost completely unproblematic life, a lot of my past work has been an observation of the impact of perceived success on mental health and how that has manifested in the troubled lives of many celebrities. More broadly, but not exclusive of this, my work has always been an exploration and critique of Western culture's impact on civilization globally.
