This piece focuses on the struggles faced by Black mothers; the piece mirrors a rising trend where Black women embrace natural births with the support of doulas and an empowering circle of women. My artwork is a visual ode to the transformative power of communal care during childbirth. Despite not being a mother myself, my role as an aunt accentuates my understanding of the critical need for a safe and supportive environment during childbirth, especially for Black women. Through this work, I want to amplify the importance of words of affirmation, prayer, and love surrounding the birthing experience for a new generation.
