๐ฑ San Marzano Tomatoes have long been hailed as a cut above other types of this vegetable. So, what makes San Marzano tomatoes different from their counterparts? Meaty and oval in shape, these Roma tomatoes have low water and seed contents, and are longer and thinner than other types of plum tomatoes. ๐
๐ฑ As you may have guessed, San Marzano tomatoes derive their origins from Italy. Specifically, they are from the area of Mount Vesuvius, a super volcano off of the coast of Naples that is famous for the Pompeii event. These tomatoes are grown around this volcano for the goal of being less acidic. ๐
๐ฑ FRESH FACTS: These crazy cuties are considered the Ferrari or Prada of canned tomato varieties, and loyalists say they are well worth the higher price tag compared to other Italian or domestically produced options. To tell if these little ones are the REAL deal look for a Consorzio San Marzano number stamped on the bottom of the can, check for the words Pomodoro San Marzano dellโAgro Sarnese Nocerino, and make sure the tomatoes are in cans! ๐๐
