VAS 2101 “Zhiguli” (also known as “Kopeyka”, that is 1/100th of a rouble, the smallest Russian coin) was developed more than half a century ago by Fiat’s director of design Dante Giaacoza. Car lovers of those years got used to rounded forms, and at first they did not accept the new model, but as early as next year, after the start of production, Fiat 124 won the European “Car of the Year” award. Three years later, a factory was built in the Soviet Union for the production of automobiles under the license of FIAT. The first VAZ car models 2101, 2102 and 2103 were designed on the basis of Italian cars, and after testing on Russian roads they received many improvements. Advanced VAZ / FIAT models have been in production for about twenty years. Many of these vehicles can still be found in perfect condition in collectors' garages. Since 2015, the production of FIAT 124 has resumed. New sports FIAT 124 is developed on the basis of Mazda. What an amazing Kopeyka!
