This work of art created by Emily Eizen is inspired by the urgent need for real change in our criminal justice system. The design features two cannabis plants emerging from a shadowed pit, representing the emergence and widespread acceptance of cannabis into the mainstream. There are a number of elements found beneath the dark hole representing meaning and use cases that make up cannabis culture: a medical cross and pills to symbolize the triumph of the plant for medicinal uses, lips for sensuality, lightbulbs to speak to the creativity cannabis can spark, a heart for love, a smile for joy, and most importantly, a dove carrying a hemp leaf, symbolizing the freedoms still stifled by the ongoing criminalization of the plant.

Within the design you can also spot the word “Justice,” a key component and necessary part of giving more meaning to the 420 holiday – an annual celebration of the plant and all its provided, recognized by the cannabis community on April 20.

As we look ahead to the future of cannabis in America, it’s important we recognize the work still required to change policy and remove stigmas for cannabis and hemp users.

Proceeds from the sale of the unique NFT go to support Last Prisoner Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to cannabis-related criminal justice reform. As the United States moves away from the criminalization of cannabis, giving rise to a major new industry, there remains the fundamental injustice inflicted upon those who have suffered under America’s unjust policy of cannabis prohibition. Through intervention, advocacy, and awareness campaigns, the Last Prisoner Project works to redress the past and continuing harms of these inhumane and ineffective laws and policies.

This NFT was created by Emily Eizen, a queer multimedia artist. Her '60s psychedelic inspired works showcase the beauty, freedom, and diversity Eizen considers essential to establishing equity in the cannabis space and beyond. Emily’s portfolio and commissions highlight her ability to adapt to different styles and aesthetics across spectrums of gender and sexuality, defying convention. Welcome to the world of Emily Eizen, where the in-demand artist reflects the colorful and vibrant feelings she experiences while merging the cultures of cannabis and art.
